Moving Business Drawbacks and Benefits
The main disadvantages of the moving business are:

Moving is "seasonal" business. June is the busiest month; the school year is over and those who need to move are ready for move. That’s why most of your revenue will come in April through September. During winter the moving business slows down and your company will be dependant on the strength of your contacts. If the contacts are good, you will spend less time to get your truck(s) fully loaded.

There will be lots of stressful situations, such as: trucks breaking down, sometimes in inconvenient and out of the way places; trucks getting stuck because of bad weather conditions; customer's goods getting lost or damaged; your drivers letting you down. And when your business will grow, you will have a dispatch to deal with these problems, but initially you will have to deal with them yourself and you will be involved 24 hours a day.

In case you give up the business, you may find it difficult to find a buyer for your company. Experienced drivers buy a truck and become "owner operators", but those who new in this business will not be able to manage the company.

The main advantage of starting a moving company is that it is very profitable (if properly organized). 40 million of Americans are moving each year, with about 15 million of them moving interstate. Moving from state to state and internationally is more expensive but moving locally is also not cheap. For example, 2 professional movers+1 truck will cost about $80/per hour with the minimum of 3 hours job. You may double your profit if you sell moving and packing supplies to the customers.
