Targeting Your Market
Here are some questions for you to answer to realize who your customers are:

1) Are you living in a college town? College and universities students move from dorms and apartments at the end of each year. Typically these are long distance moves, but it's a reliable market because almost all of the students clear out at the end of the school year.

2) Would you like to move apartment dwellers? Mostly, these moves will be smaller than home moves, and are more likely to be local.

Some quick tips for how to start.

- Start small (even part-time on the weekends) and grow as your experience develops.

- When you've discovered your target market, make contacts. Your source for referrals may be a student service department at the college. The landlords may be glad to give your name to renters who are moving.

- Also real estate agents may recommend movers.

- Keep in mind that word of mouth is also a great way to get more customers, so with each move you do: those customers may help you get more business.

Expanding Your Business

If interested in growing your business, you should add employees and expand your territory. Also try to add more services to your current business, such as selling packing supplies.

You may also expand by starting a self-storage business.
